ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's soccer team (4-3-2, 1-0 PL) will play at American (4-4-2, 2-0 PL) on Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Reeves Field in Washington, D.C. Live statistics will be available and live video will be available for $7.95.
Wednesday afternoon's contest will be Navy's first action in 10 days after having a pair of games called off due to the government shutdown. Navy was scheduled to play at Lafayette last Saturday, but the game was postponed to Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 PM.
Dating back to a 3-0 win at George Washington on September 21, Navy has won three straight games. The Mids defeated Virginia Tech on the road, 2-0, on September 24 and downed Boston University, 1-0, in both teams' Patriot League opener on September 28. The three straight shutout victories marked the first time Navy accomplished that feat since 2000, when the team earned seven straight shutout wins.
Sophomore forward Jamie Dubyoski (Catonsville, Md.) and senior goalkeeper Gavin Snyder (Severna Park, Md.) were each well-honored last week for their play in Navy's wins over Virginia Tech and Boston University.
Dubyoski scored the game-winner in both contests and also had an assist against the Hokies. Snyder went 2-0 in the two shutouts and has yet to allow a goal this season in 267 minutes of play.
Dubyoski was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week and the NAAA Athlete of the Week. He was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Snyder was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week.
Dubyoski leads Navy with six goals and 13 points and he has scored in four straight games. Snyder is 3-0 with a 0.00 goals-against average and 11 overall saves in three games.
American has earned Patriot League wins over Lehigh (2-0) and Holy Cross (3-0) this season and sits tied for first place with Army with six points. Colgate (1-0-1) is in third with four points and Navy is tied for fourth with three points, but has played one less game than the rest of the leaders.
American's Billy Knutsen was named the Patriot League's Goalkeeper of the Week and Patrick Melhert was the league's offensive player of the week on Monday. Knutsen shut out Holy Cross with five saves last week and Melhert had a goal and an assist.
Dale Ludwig leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists and Joe Iraola has a team-best three goals. Knutsen is 4-4-2 with a 0.77 goals-against average and a .849 save percentage.
American won the 2012 Patriot League Regular Season title with a 5-0-2 record before falling to Lafayette in the league's tournament title game, 2-0. Senior defenseman Cristobal Soto was named the Patriot League's Defensive Player of the Year last fall and he once again leads the Eagles defense.
American is ranked No. 10 in this week's NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region poll, while Navy is ninth and fellow conference schools Army (No. 7) and Bucknell (No. 8) also appear in the rankings.
The Eagles lead the all-time series against Navy, 10-8-7, and are 7-2-4 in Washington, D.C. The Eagles defeated Navy in overtime, 3-2, in 2012. Navy held a late 2-1 lead, but gave up goals in the 83rd and 92nd minutes.
Navy will next host Colgate on Saturday at 7:00 PM. The game will be held at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
