Navy Men's Soccer Returns Home to Face Lehigh on Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Unbeaten in its last seven games, the Navy men's soccer team returns home for the first time in 21 days with a Saturday night tilt against Lehigh at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Navy enters the contest with a 5-2-3 overall record and is in a third-place tie in the Patriot League standings with a 1-0-2 record, good for five points. American leads the league with seven points (2-0-1) while Lafayette, whom the Midshipmen beat 4-2 on Sept. 22, is second with six points (2-1-0). Lehigh comes into the contest with a 1-10-0 overall record and a 0-3-0 mark in league play.

Navy hasn't lost since a Sept. 8 decision against High Point, 2-0. The Midshipmen are unbeaten in their last seven games with a 4-0-3 record. The unbeaten streak is the longest for a Navy team since the 2000 team started the year with a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1).
Combined with the women's team, which enters Friday's game with Colgate on a 15-game unbeaten streak, the Navy soccer teams own a combined 22-game unbeaten streak (19-0-3).
Navy is ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA / Continental Tire Mid-Atlantic regional rankings and is the highest-ranked Patriot League team. Bucknell is eighth and American is ninth.
Navy is unbeaten (1-0-2) in its first three Patriot League games for the first time since joining the Patriot League in 1991.
Navy has scored a goal in seven straight games, its longest streak since scoring in 10 straight games to start the 2000 season. During the current seven-game stretch, Navy has outscored its foes, 17-7.
Navy's two losses have come to nationally-ranked teams in Old Dominion (14th NSCAA) and High Point (23rd NSCAA). The two teams are a combined 17-2-3.
Navy has outscored its opponents in the first half, 13-7, including 12-3 in the last six games, scoring its 12 goals on 48 shots.
The Midshipmen lead the Patriot League in goals per game (1.90) and shots per game (17.00). Navy ranks 39th in the country in scoring offense.
Individually, Joseph Greenspan (So. / Westfield, N.J.) and Alex Wilson (Jr. / Phoenix, Ariz.) lead the Midshipmen with three goals, four assists and 10 points each. Wilson ranks 44th nationally in assists per game (0.44), 58th in total assists (4) and 90th in points per game (1.11). Greenspan is 61st in assists per game (0.40) and 58th in total assists (4).
The duo is tied for fifth in the Patriot League in points (10) while Wilson paces the league in points per game (1.11). They are both seventh in goals scored (3) and tied for first in assists (4).
Twelve different players have scored goals for the Midshipmen and two more have added assists as 14 different players have scored points for the Midshipmen. Last year's team saw 12 players score goals and 17 players tally points.
Gavin Snyder (Jr. / Severna Park, Md.) has played all but 45:00 in goal, registering a 1.25 GAA and a .705 save percentage while making 31 saves. He stopped a career-high six shots in the last outing against Bucknell and ranks fourth in the Patriot League in GAA.
Navy freshmen, sophomores and juniors have scored 17 of Navy's 19 goals and have dished out all 14 assists, accounting for 48 of Navy's 52 points (92.3 percent) this season. Freshmen have scored 10 of those points (3 g, 4 a).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Navy is 3-1-0 at home this year and 16-10-3 under head coach Dave Brandt.
In his fourth year here at Navy, Dave Brandt is 8-9-8 against Patriot League opposition.
When Navy scores at least one goal in a game this year, the Midshipmen are 5-0-3.
Navy is 20-2-4 under Brandt when scoring first; 7-23-2 when opponents score first.
Navy is 23-2-1 under Brandt when scoring at least two goals; when holding opponents to zero or one goals, Navy is 24-7-11.
Lehigh enters Saturday's game on a three-game losing streak and with a 1-10-0 record. Last year's third-place finishers in the Patriot League regular-season race have struggled on both ends, allowing 19 goals while scoring just three goals in 11 games. However, Lehigh's one win this year came against Penn State in a 1-0 decision on Sept. 23.
The Mountain Hawks have been shut out in nine of their 11 games. Besides the Penn State contest, Lehigh's only other game in which it scored came on Sept. 4, a 3-2 overtime loss to Saint Peter's.
In Patriot League play, Lehigh has lost to Lafayette (1-0), Bucknell (1-0) and Colgate (5-0).
Brian Suchoski leads Lehigh with four points (2 g) while Matt Weaver has added two points (1 g).
In goal, 2011 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Ciaran Nugent owns a 1.88 GAA and a .707 save percentage while making 41 saves in 812 minutes.
Lehigh is shooting just 2.9 percent (3 goals on 103 shots) while opponents are shooting 12.3 percent (19 goals on 154 shots). Opponents are outshooting the Mountain Hawks, 154-103, an average of 14.0 to 9.4 shots per game. In the second half and overtime combined, Lehigh is getting outscored by a 14-1 margin.
Navy leads the series, 29-17-7, including a 22-9-5 mark in Annapolis. However, since 1996, Lehigh owns a 13-2-1 series lead and Navy hasn't won in Annapolis against Lehigh since 1994.
The Mountain Hawks topped Navy last year, 2-0, in Bethlehem, Pa. The Mountain Hawks led 2-0 at halftime and outshot the Midshipmen, 23-10, for the contest.
Since that loss last year to Lehigh on Oct. 14, 2011, Navy owns an 8-2-5 overall record and a 3-0-4 record against Patriot League opposition.
Navy will take on UMBC on Tuesday, October 16, in its final non-conference home game, beginning at 7:00 PM. It will be the final home game until the season finale against Colgate on November 3.
Following the UMBC game, Navy will travel to American on Saturday, October 20, for a rematch of the 2011 Patriot League Tournament semifinal won by American in a shootout. Kick-off is at 1:00 PM in Washington, D.C.
