Men’s Soccer to Play at Colgate on Sunday Afternoon
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men’s soccer team (2-11-2, 0-5-2 PL) will play its final road game of the 2017 season at Colgate (5-10-1, 2-4-1 PL) on Sunday at 1:00 PM at Beyer-Small ’76. The game will have free live video and live statistics.
Navy is coming off a 3-2 loss to visiting Lafayette on Wednesday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Goals by freshman Wyatt Millard and senior Daniel Zaremba staked the Mids to a 2-1 lead, but Lafayette’s Evan Vare scored two of his three goals in the final 12 minutes as the Leopards completed a comeback.
Colgate is also coming off a hard-luck loss on Wednesday. The Raiders led Holy Cross, 3-2, with one minute remaining in regulation when the Crusaders scored to force overtime. Holy Cross then scored the game-winning goal 5:17 into the first overtime period to complete the late comeback.
Navy and Colgate will be meeting for the 30th time in series history on Sunday. Colgate holds a slight 13-11-5 lead in the all-time series, which began in 1991. The Raiders have posted 1-0 wins over Navy in each of the last two seasons.
With his goal in the 32nd minute against Lafayette on Wednesday, Zaremba took sole possession of the team lead in goals this season with four. He also has one assist for a team-best nine points. Senior Aubrey Jones is second on the team with three goals and six points. Junior TJ Powers has four assists, while freshman Jarvian Wigfall has three.
Senior goalkeeper Mac Burke leads the Patriot League and ranks 17th in the NCAA in saves per game (5.00). Burke has a 1.47 goals-against average and a .765 save percentage. Burke ranks fourth in program history in career goalkeeper minutes played with 3,463. Burke has started 33 straight games in goal for Navy.
Colgate senior midfielder Jared Stroud leads his team with 13 points on three goals and seven assists, while junior defender Aram Ouligian has 12 points on five goals and two assists. Junior forward Uyi Omorogbe has 10 points on three goals and four assists.
Colgate senior goalkeeper Peter Tappenden is 4-9-1 with a 1.74 goals-against average and a .702 save percentage.
Colgate has the Patriot League’s third-ranked scoring offense at 1.4 goals per game.
Navy will close the 2017 season by hosting Bucknell on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 PM at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
