DiFilippo and Pleis Earn Patriot League Men?s Soccer Weekly Honors

Navy keeper Frank DiFilippo has made at least five saves in seven games this season.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy keeper Frank DiFilippo (Jr./Springfield, Va.) and midfielder Zach Pleis (Fr./Granite Bay, Calif.) were honored as the Patriot League Men's Soccer Defensive and Rookie Players of the Week, as presented by Brine, respectively, the league office announced Monday.

DiFilippo made fives saves and posted his third shutout of the season Friday night in the Mids' 1-0 N-Star victory against Army. He lowered his goals-against average to 1.01 with the shutout, ranking as the 10th lowest in the South-Atlantic Region. He also ranks seventh in the region with 62 saves. He became the first Navy keeper to earn the weekly award since All-America goalie Brian Steckroth picked up the award during the 2001 season.

Pleis scored the game winner in the 83rd minute against the Black Knights to record his first-career goal. Teammate Matt Sanchez's (Sr./Queens N.Y.) shot was blocked, however Pleis took the rebound and dented the back of the net for the win. He is the first Navy player to earn Rookie of the Week honors in the last-two seasons.

Navy returns to action Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. when the Mids play host to Georgetown at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
