Navy senior goalkeeper Gavin Snyder (Severna Park, Md.) and freshman forward Alex Evans (Lansdale, Pa.) have received Patriot League BRINE Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced Monday. Snyder is the goalkeeper of the week for the second straight week and Evans is the league's rookie of the week.
Snyder and Evans led Navy to a 1-0 overtime win at Holy Cross on Saturday to clinch a berth in the Patriot League Tournament. Snyder posted his sixth shutout of the season while making five saves and Evans scored the game-winning goal in overtime. It was Navy's second 'golden goal' of the season.
Snyder also earned the win in goal against NJIT on Tuesday in Navy's 3-1 victory. Evans had the primary assist on Jamie Dubyoski's goal in the 82nd minute for a three-point week.
Snyder is 9-0-0 on the season and is ranked No. 1 in the NCAA in goals-against average (0.22) and save percentage (.943). During Patriot League play, he is 6-0-0 with a 0.16 goals-against average and five shutouts.
Evans ranks fourth on the team with eight points and is the team's top scoring freshman. He has three goals and two assists. This is Evans' first career weekly award.
Navy is 10-3-2 overall and 6-0-0 in the Patriot League. Navy is tied with Army (6-0-0) for first place in the league standings. The Mids are currently on a nine-game winning streak, its longest streak since winning nine straight in 1966.
Navy will host Lehigh (2-11-1, 1-5-0 PL) on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
