Foskett, Miller Named to the Patriot League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy soccer players Alex Foskett and Sam Miller were named to the Patriot League men's soccer all-academic team the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. The Academic All-Patriot League Team has been added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The Men's Soccer Academic All-Patriot League Team is to have 11 student-athletes to equal the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team, however there are 12 this year because of ties in the voting.

Earlier in the week, both players were named to the ESPN The Magazine / CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.

Foskett, a senior defenseman from Manassas, Va., was named to the Patriot League academic team after compiling a 3.73 cumulative GPA in electrical engineering. Foskett, who was a member of the 2009 Patriot League men's soccer academic honor roll, started all 16 games as a defensemen for the Midshipmen, which finished the 2010 season with a 7-5-4 overall record. Foskett ranked tied for third on the team in assists with two and started all 35 games over the last two seasons. For his career, he played in 41 games, starting the last 35 contests. He was named to the 2010 Navy / UMBC Kickoff Classic All-Tournament team and was selected as the Patriot League's Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 27.

Miller, a junior midfielder from Tulsa, Okla., was also named to the Patriot League team as he owns a 3.93 GPA in mechanical engineering, ranking 28th on the academic order of merit and 59th on the junior class' overall order of merit at Navy. The two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection saw action in all 16 games with 11 starts in the 2010 season. Miller scored two goals (against Wofford and Holy Cross) this year to rank tied for fourth on the team in goals, while ranking second on the squad with 25 shots. For his career, Miller has played in 49 games with 27 starts. He has scored four goals for eight points during his career.



American's Matt Makowski was named the Patriot League Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
