ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy junior Joseph Greenspan (Westfield, N.J.) has been named the Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week and he also earned a spot on the national teams of the week by both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News. Navy senior Gavin Snyder has been named the Patriot League BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week and the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Navy (13-3-2) also moved up to No. 21 in the Top Drawer Soccer national poll and the Mids appear for the first time in the College Soccer News Top 30 poll at No. 30. Navy is also receiving votes in the NSCAA poll for the second straight week and the Mids are ranked No. 34 in the national RPI rankings.
Greenspan and Snyder led Navy to a 1-0 win over Army in front of 7,416 fans at PPL Park in the Army-Navy Cup last Friday. Snyder posted the shutout and Greenspan scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute in double overtime to win the N-Star.
The win allowed Navy to finish the Patriot League Regular Season with a perfect 9-0-0 record. Navy also extended the nation's longest winning streak to 12 games.
Snyder made three saves in the game and Greenspan, a defenseman, played a big role in Navy posting its eighth shutout of the season by consistently winning balls in the air and clearing away Army opportunities.
Snyder is ranked first in the NCAA in save percentage with a .917 clip and he is second in the NCAA with a 0.33 goals-against average. Snyder is 12-0-0 on the season. He was named to the All-Patriot League Third Team on Monday.
Snyder has been named the league's goalkeeper of the week three times this season.
Greenspan was tabbed as the 2013 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year on Monday and also earned a spot on the all-league first team. Greenspan is second on the team with 12 points on six goals.
Greenspan earns his second selection to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week (Oct. 15, 2013) and his second selection to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week (Sept. 24, 2012). This is his first national player of the week award.
Navy, as the top seed and conference regular season champion, will host a Patriot League semifinal on Friday at 4:00 PM and the Patriot League final on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
