Navy Claims Lead in Patriot League Presidents' Cup Race

While neither school participated in all of the Patriot League's seven fall sports, both Navy and American made the most of their opportunities to finish at the top of the Presidents' Cup standings through the fall season.

The Mids have the overall lead with 42.25 points, just ahead of the Eagles with 41.25. The Mids also lead the men's standings with 20 points, the most available to them in the fall, while the Eagles top the women's side with 27.5 points.

Navy had top performances throughout the fall, as the Mids won the League title in men's cross country and men's soccer, and finished tied for first in the regular season while making the championship game in women's soccer. Navy also placed third in women's cross country and just outside of theLeague tournament in volleyball. American won Patriot League regular-season and tournament titles in both field hockey and volleyball, finished third in the men's cross country race and made it to the Patriot League Tournament in both men and women's soccer.

Defending Presidents' Cup champion Bucknell came in third place with 36 points in the overall standings, just ahead of new member Boston University (35.75). The Terriers opened their Patriot League era by capturing titles in women's cross country and women's soccer in the fall. The rest of the overall standings featured Lehigh (34.5), Army (34), Colgate (32), Holy Cross (24), Lafayette (20.75) and Loyola Maryland (12). The Leopards were the only other school to win a League title in the fall as they captured their first football crown since 2006.

The races for the men and women's titles are both close with the fall schedule complete. Following Navy (20) on the men's side is Bucknell (16.25), Army (15.25), Holy Cross (14), Lehigh (14), American (13.75), Colgate (12.25), Boston University (10), Lafayette (10) and Loyola (4). American (27.5) is holding off Boston University (25.75) on the women's side, ahead of Navy (22.25), Lehigh (20.5), Bucknell (19.75), Colgate (19.75), Army (18.75), Lafayette (10.75), Holy Cross (10) and Loyola (8).

Patriot League Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on a team's performance in the regular season and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team standing at the Patriot LeagueChampionship. Points for football are awarded based on regular-season standings.

Bucknell has won the overall Patriot League Presidents' Cup 18 times, holding off Navy by 0.5 points in the closest final margin ever in 2012-13. Lehigh edged the Bison in the men's standings for its second consecutive and fifth overall title, while Navy won on the women's side for the second straight time last year. Bucknell has won seven of the last eight overall Patriot League Presidents' Cup titles, with Navy breaking a Bison streak of six in a row in 2011-12. Army is the only other team in League history to win the overall cup, taking home four trophies (1994, 1995, 1997, 2005).
