Smith's Career Honors:
• First-Team All-CSFL Linebacker (2007)

Started in all six games ... finished second on the team with 35 tackles ... made 3.5 tackles for a loss of 14 yards ... sacked the quarterback once ... recovered a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown against Army in the Star Game (11/2) ... tallied nine tackles in that contest ... produced season-best 10 stops, one for a loss, in the first meeting of the year with Army at the Allegiance Bowl (9/22) ... two of his three tackles were in the backfield at Penn (10/26) ... one of the tackles for a loss was a sack ... also ran the ball once for an 11-yard gain against Princeton (10/19).

Started all-six games at linebacker ... led the team with 39 tackles, 20 of which were solo ... made five tackles for a loss of 11 yards ... sacked the quarterback once for a three-yard loss ... broke up one pass on the year ... recorded nine tackles, 1.5 for a loss and a sack at Johns Hopkins (9/10) ... paced the Mids defense with 11 stops, seven of which were solo, and 2.0 tackles in the backfield against Army in the Pride Bowl (9/24) ... recorded five tackles in a win over Penn (10/27) ... finished the season with a nine-tackle performance, 1.5 for a loss, in the Star Game against Army (11/3).

Posted three tackles and recovered a fumble during his first-collegiate game at VMI (9/17).

High School:
Attended Buchholz High School ... earned two letters with the football team as a linebacker ... also lettered in wrestling, track and field and weightlifting ... named area scholar-athlete of the year during his senior year ... helped the football team to an 8-3 mark and district championship in his junior and senior seasons.

Son of Jim Jr. and Mary Smith ... born Dec. 16, 1986, in Charlotte, N.C. ... brother, James, is a long-snapper for the University of Florida ... brother, Kevin, is a linebacker for the University of Notre Dame ... majoring in history.
