ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy sprint football defensive back James Campbell (Sr./Kansas City, Mo.) has been honored as the CSFL Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Thursday morning.

It is the first time in Campbell's career that he has been named the league's defensive player of the week. He was recognized as the league's special teams player of the week following last year's N-Star victory over Army in West Point.

Campbell played a key role in Navy's 20-0 victory over Randolph-Macon JV in Ashland, Va., last Sunday. He picked off two passes deep in Navy territory and returned them 67 yards for the Mids. The two interceptions in the same game were a first for Campbell in his career.

The Navy defensive back has already intercepted three passes on the year and returned them a school-record 92 yards. For his career, Campbell has picked off nine passes and returned them for a total of 168 yards.

Navy (2-0) will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 28, when it heads up to Shea Stadium in West Point, N.Y., to take on Army in a non-conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
