Mershon Named CSFL Defensive Player of the Week
This is Mershon's first career CSFL weekly honor.
Sept. 18, 2013
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Collegiate Sprint Football League has tabbed Navy defensive lineman Christopher Mershon (Jr., Lee’s Summit, Mo.) as its defensive player of the week in Wednesday’s weekly award announcements.
In Friday’s 23-9 win over Franklin Pierce, Mershon led a staunch Navy defense with a dominant performance. The junior recorded a team-high 12 tackles, including 3.5 for losses totaling -10 yards against the Ravens. Mershon also forced a fumble, as well as deflected a pass to set up an interception. For the game, he was part of a defense that held Franklin Pierce under 100 yards of offense until the fourth quarter; in total the Ravens finished with 118 yards.
This is the first time that Mershon, a 2012 All-CSFL second team honoree, has been named the CSFL Defensive Player of the Week in his career.
Following a forfeiture of this coming Friday’s game by Princeton, Navy will look to remain undefeated when it returns to action with a home matchup versus Mansfield on Friday, Sept. 27.
