Swenson Earns Second Straight CSFL Special Teams Award
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For the second consecutive week, sophomore kicker Jared Swenson (Seymour, Wis.) was named Collegiate Sprint Football League Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Swenson tallied nine points in Navy’s 33-0 shutout win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon in the Mids’ home opener. He finished the game with two field goals and three extra points.
The Seymour, Wis. native opened the scoring for Navy with a 23-yard field goal to put the Mids up 3-0 early in the first quarter. He followed with a 25-yard field goal to extend the advantage to 6-0 in the first quarter. Swenson was perfect 3-for-3 in PAT tries, splitting the uprights for two extra points in the second quarter and adding a third PAT in the third quarter.
This season, he is 6-for-7 in field goal attempts and 11-for-11 in extra point tries for a team-high 29 points.
Navy continues the season with another road game as the Midshipmen travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army in the 2017 sprint football installment of the annual Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Shea Stadium.
