Coughlin Tabbed CSFL Defensive Player of the Week

Coughlin helped lead Navy to an impressive 49-14 victory over Cornell on Friday afternoon. The senior anchored the defense with a team-high nine tackles, including six solo stops. He recorded 2.0 tackles for loss, including the game's only sack. In addition, Coughlin forced a fumble.
On Cornell's second drive of the game, the Big Red picked up a first down and on 1st and 10, Coughlin caused a fumble behind the line of scrimmage to disrupt the visitor's rhythm. On fourth down on the same drive, Coughlin had the stop to force a turnover on downs inside the Navy 30 yardline to keep the game scoreless.
In the second quarter, Coughlin had two big stops for a combined one-yard gain on a pivotal drive, leading to a three-and-out by Cornell. Teammate Sheppard Wilson (Charlotte, N.C.) was able to block the Big Red punt and senior captain Alex Oldham (Dayton, Ohio) recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown, breaking the game open for the Mids.
As a unit, the Navy defense held the Cornell offense without a first down on 10 of their 14 drives, including eight three-and-outs. The defensive squad blocked a punt, forced a fumble, and recorded an interception.
