ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy sprint football team closed out its season at Rip Miller Field, Friday with a 31-24 loss to the Black Knights of Army.
Army (6-1, 3-1 CSFL) led most of the game, leading by as many as 15 points. Navy closed the gap when Stephan Healy recovered a Jonathan Hall fumble at the Army 25. The Midshipmen cut the deficit to 24-23, when Steve Troy connected with Ben Wilson on a 10-yard touchdown pass. The extra point by Becky Murphy tied the game at 24.
It wouldn't be enough as Army marched 78 yards in 13 plays for the game-winning touchdown with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter. Navy's (3-3, 2-2) final drive fell short when the Mids fumbled on a fourth and two play with 10 seconds left and turned the ball over on downs.
Wilson led the Mids with four catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Troy had a solid game, going 7-15 for 119 yards and throwing a touchdown. Roger Callahan led the Mids in rushing with 64 yards on 21 carries. Arnold Selvidge was behind him with 40 yards on 10 carries.
