Mids Split Action Against No. 3 Yale and Colby

New Haven, Conn. - Navy (13-3) rounded out action at the Yale Squash Round Robin over the weekend by defeating 17th-ranked Colby, while dropping a 9-0 decision to No. 3 Yale. Overall, the Mids experienced a successful weekend, winning four of their five matches, including an upset victory over Bates Saturday afternoon.
Though Yale won all nine matches by 9-0 counts over the Midshipmen, junior Scott Hackman (McLean, Va.) appeared to put up the best batlle, dropping his match 9-7, 9-8, 9-8 to Bulldog senior Gavin Cumberbatch.
And while the Mids swept Colby, 9-0, Navy certainly was challenged. Hackman put up a strong come-from-behind effort in his match against Ryan Maher at No. 3. Maher won the first-two games, 9-5, 10-8, before Hackman rallied to win the final-three games, including a 10-8 decision in game five. Senior Mike Rogers (Fremont, Calif.) also won a thriller in five games at the No. 4 spot, as the two competitors traded victories until Rogers' game-five 9-4 win.
Freshman Tucker George (West Hartford, Conn.), senior Gavin Morrison (Rye, N.Y.) and senior Luke Koran (Hixton, Wis.) won their matches by 3-1 counts, while Mike Brennan (Newton, Mass.), Dhruv Parashar (Singapore), Tom Kiernan (Bernardsville, N.J.) and William Eucker (Denver, Colo.) swept their foes.
The Midshipmen return to action Wednesday when they travel to the nation's capital to take on George Washington. Action is set for 5 p.m.
