Links associated with this release: ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy squash team (16-5) was victorious in its matches against rival Academy Air Force, 8-0, and 13th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 9-0, in its final two home matches of the year Saturday at the Bancroft Squash Courts. Five seniors played their final squash matches of their careers Saturday and occupied the top-five flights in the match against Air Force. Andrew Crawford (Chicago, Ill.), Brian Ko (Coppell, Texas), Jamie Peace (Chestertown, Md.), Clint Lawler (Thurmont, Md.) and John Eisenbraun (Oak Hill, Va.) swept their competitors to lead the Midshipmen to an 8-0 triumph over the Falcons. Air Force brought just eight players to compete, thus the unusual score. Navy's second match of the day was against a tough Franklin & Marshall squad. "In terms of wins this season, it's the best win of the season for us," said head coach Craig Dawson. "We lost both matches we played against them last season. They returned seven players from last season and have two highly-ranked freshmen on their team, as well. This was a great win for our team going into nationals next week." Navy lost in the top-three positions, however, Edson Greenwood win at No. 4 helped the Mids turn the corner. Greenwood stopped Shahzeb Zakaria, 15-4, 15-10, 15-13 to earn Navy's first win of the day. Meanwhile, Lawler, David Haile (Hudson, Ohio), Stephen Huber (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Matt Fisher (Clifton, Va.) posted wins at slots six through nine. In terms of action, the even flights are played first. Navy quickly burst out to a 3-1 lead before dropping back-to-back matches at No. 1 and No. 3. Haile posted a 3-1 (15-9, 15-7, 15-12) victory over Scott Jason at the seventh slot to give Navy a slight 4-3 edge with Peace in action at No. 5 and Fisher at No. 9. Navy needed to win just one of the two matches still being played when Fisher won the decisive match, 15-11, 15-6, 15-11 over Gregory Romero, to give the Mids their 16th victory of the season. Peace, meanwhile, dropped a heartbreaker to William Dore in a five-gamer. Dore claimed the win, 15-11, 13-15, 15-12, 10-15, 15-9. The Midshipmen conclude their season next weekend when they travel to New Haven, Conn., to participate in the NISRA Championship. Navy retains its No. 10 ranking and will face the 15th-ranked team at the championship. The Mids will play in the second division which will feature the No. 9 through No. 16 teams.
