Navy’s Buchter Qualifies for NCAA Diving Championship
ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– Navy’s Bradley Buchter (So., Hickory, N.C.) qualified for the second NCAA Championship meet of his career with his efforts Monday at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship at Piscataway, N.J.
Buchter totaled 735.60 points over the course of his 12 dives to finish in third place in the field. The top-six finishers on the board earned a berth into the upcoming NCAA Championship, March 22-24 at Minnesota.
Buchter became the 21st Navy men’s diver to advance to the NCAA Championship when he qualified for the 2017 meet. Today, he became the seventh from the school to reach multiple national meets and the first since Kevin Teague in 2004 and 2006.
Also reaching the finals on the board (top-18 after the six-dive preliminary round) from Navy was Patrick Carter (Fr., West Islip, N.Y.), who placed 15th.
Diving continues at the meet Tuesday with the men’s one meter and the women’s three meter, then platform diving concludes the meet Wednesday.
