Buchter Qualifies for NCAA Diving Championship in Second Event
PISCATAWAY, N.J. –– Navy’s Bradley Buchter (So., Hickory, N.C.) placed eighth in the one-meter springboard event Tuesday at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship in Piscataway, N.J. With that finish he has now qualified to compete in both springboard events at the NCAA Championship, March 22-24 in Minneapolis.
Buchter stood in 13th place through the six-dive preliminary round, but jumped up five spots with a total score of 621.95 points by the end of the six-dive finals. He needed to finish among the top-12 divers in today’s event to compete on the board at the NCAA Championship. This is due to his automatically qualifying on the three-meter board with his third-place effort Monday.
Three additional Mids were in action on Tuesday. Patrick Carter (Fr., West Islip, N.Y.) placed 20th (272.65) on the one meter, Nate Belch (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) finished in 22nd place on the board and Meghan Gerdes (Fr., Spring, Texas) scored 218.70 points to place 29th on the women’s three-meter board.
The meet is slated to finish Wednesday with platform diving for both men and women.
