Navy's Meyer Named National Swimmer of the Week
Jan. 6, 2009
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- A trio of individual event victories and a pair of top-10 clockings in school history helped Navy's Adam Meyer (Jr., Bethesda, Md.) garner National Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week accolades Tuesday from www.collegeswimming.com(.) Meyer posted victories in the 200 butterfly (1:48.26), 200 breaststroke (2:04.38) and 400 individual medley (3:56.49) races during Navy's dual meet at Harvard this past Saturday. He won the 200 fly by 1.6 seconds, the 200 breast by just over three seconds and the 400 IM by nearly six seconds. Already the school record holder in the 200 fly and 400 IM and the second-fastest swimmer in Navy history in the 200 breast, Meyer's respective times rank fifth in both the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley events. The three victories allowed Meyer to remain undefeated in those three events during the 2008-09 dual meet season. He has posted 16 wins in 16 races in the aforementioned trio of events, and has recorded 24 wins in 26 individual event contests overall this season. Additionally during the meet against the Crimson, Meyer swam the fastest butterfly leg in the meet-opening 200 medley relay event. Earlier this season, teammate Andrew Hetzner (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) was tabbed as the national swimmer of the week for his efforts during Navy's victory over Maryland. Navy, 12-1 on the year, will compete Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y., against Cornell and Yale.
