ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Patriot League honored swimmer Mac Anthony (Sr., Allentown, Pa.) and diver Ben Freedman (So., Kennewick, Wash.) Monday for their respective performances during Navy's recent meet against Princeton. Anthony was tabbed as the league's men's swimmer of the week, while Freedman earned the men's diver-of-the-week accolade in the league.
Anthony totaled three victories against the Tigers this past Saturday, individually winning the 100-m and 200-m freestyle races and anchoring Navy's victorious 400-m freestyle relay team. His time of 50.49 gave him the victory in the 100-m event by just over one-half of a second, while he posted a 3.39-second win in the 200-m free with his clocking of 1:49.61. After placing sixth in the 400-m freestyle race, he closed the meet by swimming the fastest 100 meters of any competitor in the relay race. Anthony entered the water with Navy trailing a first-place Princeton foursome by nearly four-tenths of a second, but his time of 49.64 allowed the Mids to win the race by eight-hundredths of a second with their overall time of 3:23.05.
Freedman posted his second one-meter victory of the season Saturday with his score of 325.20 on the board. His tally gave him the win by 23 points. Freedman would then go on to be narrowly edged for the victory in the three-meter event as his tally of 292.25 left him one-quarter of a point behind the score of event winner Stephen Vines from Princeton. He has now placed either first or second five times in six three-meter competitions this season.
Navy will continue its season Saturday when the Mids race at Penn State in an 11 a.m. meet.
