ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams will both be in competition Saturday as the squads will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a meet against North Carolina and Penn State. The 11 a.m. meet at Koury Natatorium will be streamed through the ACC Network (ESPN3). Links to both the video stream and live results from the meet can be found at NavySports.com.

The men’s meet features the 8-1 Mids, the 1-3 Tar Heels and the 1-5 Nittany Lions. The three women’s teams enter the weekend with Navy having posted an 8-0 record, North Carolina a 2-2 mark and Penn State is winless through six meets.

The Navy men’s team dropped their first meet of the season last weekend when Princeton edged Navy, 151.5-148.5, in Lejeune Hall.

“Similar to the week before,” said Navy men’s swimming head coach Bill Roberts, “we are expecting a very close meet with both programs this Saturday. We are going to have to be completely on to be competitive with each team. After a close loss last weekend, the team has trained really well this week and we are looking forward to racing and diving again with these two great programs.”

The Navy women’s squad will be in competition for the first time since recording a victory over Army on Dec. 7. That win was the 29th in a row by the Mids in the series.

“Following a very good winter training trip,” said Navy head coach John Morrison, a swimmer at and graduate of North Carolina, “we are excited to get up and race against two great teams. UNC and Penn State are each well coached, always compete for the top of the ACC and Big Ten, respectively, and consistently score points at the NCAA Championship. Our team has set a goal to compete at this level and this is the perfect opportunity to test our mettle.”

North Carolina’s men’s team placed 36th at the 2017 NCAA Championship while the women’s team is ranked 21st nationally this season after placing 17th at last year’s national championship.

The Nittany Lions saw their respective teams place 28th at the 2017 NCAA Men’s Championship and 36th at the women’s meet.

Navy dropped meets to both programs one year ago. North Carolina recorded a 170-130 win over the Mids in the men’s meet and a 179-119 victory in the women’s dual, both of which were contested in Annapolis. Penn State defeated Navy 173-127 in last year’s men’s contest and 199-99 in the women’s meet. Last year’s dual between the Mids and the Nittany Lions was held at Penn State.
