Jan. 16, 2012
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy's Mac Anthony (Sr., Allentown, Pa.) was named as the Patriot League Men's Swimmer of the Week on Monday for his performance during Navy's victory this past weekend over No. 23 Penn State. Anthony has now received the accolade in three consecutive weeks and five in all this season.
Anthony notched individual victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle events before anchoring Navy's victorious 400 freestyle relay team. His time of 1:38.81 gave him the win in the 200 free by 2.18 seconds, while his clocking of 4:32.33 in the 500 free provided him with a 2.36-second margin of victory.
Navy held a 142-141 lead heading into the 400 free relay, which meant the winner of the race would also win the meet. Anthony's time of 44.34 over the final 100-yard leg of the race, the second-fastest clocking of any swimmer in the field, allowed the Mids to win the relay by just over three-tenths of a second and the meet by the final score of 155-145.
Navy, 9-1 this season with two victories against nationally-ranked programs, will next be in action Jan. 28 when the Mids play host to the Navy Invitational.
