Duvall Named NAAA Athlete of the Week
April 3, 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Men's swimmer Tom Duvall (So., Durham, N.H.) has been selected as this week's NAAA Athlete of the Week, presented by Rolls Royce.
Duvall competed in three individual events at last week's NCAA Championship. He broke his own Navy and Patriot League record in his first event of the meet, the 500 freestyle. Duvall touched the wall in the trial heats of the event in a time of 4:14.04 to better his own standard of 4:15.86. Additionally, that clocking qualified him for the championship final of the 500 free, in which he would place seventh with a time of 4:16.85. This showing earned Duvall All-America honors in the 500 free, making him just the third Mid over the last four decades to garner All-America laurels in an individual event.
Duvall would go on to place 32nd in the 200 free (1:35.85, No. 2 time at Navy) and 33rd in the 1650 free (15:24.58) at the championship, while also swimming a leg on Navy's 800 freestyle relay team that finished in 24th place (3:12.23, No. 3 clocking at Navy).
