CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams were each selected as the favorites in the pre-season poll of coaches and sports information contacts to win their respective Patriot League title this season. The results of the poll were released Wednesday by the league office.

The Navy men's team garnered 14 first-place votes (voters could not cast a ballot for their own school) and 98 points in all. Last year, the Mids picked up their ninth Patriot League title in as many years of competing at the league meet. Bucknell finished in second place in the tabulation with 82 overall points and one first-place nod, with Army tallying 77 points and one first-place vote to place third. The Bison and Black Knights also finished in second and third place, respectively, at the 2012 Patriot League Championship.

The remaining positions in the poll were filled by Lehigh in fourth place (63 points), American in fifth (43), Colgate in sixth (39), Lafayette in seventh (32) and Holy Cross in eighth (14).

The Navy women's team accrued 11 first-place votes and 95 total points to finish at the top of balloting. The Mids won the league crown last season for the second time in three years, the third time in five years and for a league-high 11th time overall.

Colgate received four first-place votes and a total of 88 points to finish second in the polling, with Bucknell receiving the remaining first-place vote and 74 points overall to place third. The Raiders placed second at the 2012 league meet while the Bison finished in third place.

Army's 58 points allowed the Black Knights to finish in fourth place in this year's pre-season poll by just four points over fifth-place Lehigh (54 points). Completing the results were American in sixth place (33), Lafayette in seventh (32) and Holy Cross in eighth (14).

The 2013 Patriot League Championship will be contested Feb. 21-23 on the Bucknell campus in Lewisburg, Pa.

Both Navy teams will open their respective seasons Oct. 6 in Baltimore when the Mids compete against Loyola and George Mason.
