Navy Teams Combine for Three Swimming & Diving Honors
Oct. 21, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Members of the Navy swimming and diving teams combined to earn three weekly awards from the Patriot League on Monday. Navy's Jonathan DeBaugh (So., Conroe, Texas) and Lauren Baguley (Sr., Hudsonville, Mich.) were selected as the league's swimmers of the week, while Wil Mayo (Sr., The Woodlands, Texas) was tabbed as the men's diver of the week.
Each of the Mids earned their respective award for the first time in their career.
DeBaugh won a pair of events during the 154.5-145.5 victory by the Mids over UMBC. He posted a time of 1:52.99 to win the 200 fly race by over seven seconds and touched the wall in the 100 fly race in a time of 50.63 to give him a three-quarters of a second victory. DeBaugh also swam the fastest fly leg (22.08) in the 200 medley relay race by eight-tenths of a second.
DeBaugh earned a win in a 100 fly race for the first time in his career and increased his 200 fly victory total to five.
Baguley entered the season without having posted a victory in a dual meet in either backstroke event. However, she won both back events Friday during Navy's 163-147 win over UMBC. Baguley posted a time of 58.72 to win the 100 back by just over one-tenth of a second before tallying a time of 2:06.28 to win the 200 back by over one second. She also would record the second-best backstroke time -- second by only four-hundredths of a second -- in the 200 medley relay.
Mayo accrued 279.97 points to win the one-meter board against the Retrievers by 21 points. He also placed third on the three meter with a score of 254.70.
The win was the sixth of Mayo's career on the one-meter board.
Both Navy teams will be in Lejeune Hall Friday at 3 p.m. when each plays host to Virginia and the women's team takes on Yale.
