ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's tennis team swept a pair of matches on Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center. The Mids went 14-0 on the day with a 7-0 win over St. Joseph's in the morning and a 7-0 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn in the afternoon.
Calvin Mark (Jr., Union City, Calif.), Blake Daniel (Jr., Overland Park, Kan.) and Tyler Tossavainen (Fr., Fleming Island, Fla.) led Navy as each posted two wins in singles action and two in doubles.

"We had a strong start with doubles," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We returned serve well and served well to lead to the doubles win."
In singles action, the Mids would go 6-0, but not without five tiebreakers and a pair of three set matches. Jana and Mark were the lone Mids to win their matches without a tiebreaker involved, as Jana defeated Paranjay Malhotra in No. 5 action, 6-4, 6-2 before Mark dispatched of Dan Barrus, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.

"In singles, we kept rolling right away with another fast start," said Officer. "Thomas Pecor did a nice job, as did Calvin Mark, who is hitting the ball as well as anyone right now. Tyler Tossavainen closed well for us in the No. 6 match for the win."
"After winning 4-3 against St. Joseph's last year and to take it 7-0 this year is a great sign," said Officer. "St. Joseph's came at us hard and made us battle."
In the afternoon session, Navy had a much easier time on their way to another 7-0 result as the Mids failed to drop a set in any of their matches to St. Francis Brooklyn.
Navy quickly netted the doubles point on the strength of a 6-0 win by the No. 3 team of Tossavainen and Jake Darrah (Fr., Cartersville, Ga.) and a 6-1 victory by the No. 2 pairing of Daniel and Mark.
Two 6-0, 6-0 straight set wins by Darrah at No. 6 and Gaines at No. 5 staked Navy out to a 3-0 match lead before Daniel, Tossavainen and Mark would finish their competitions in quick succession. Daniel clinched the team win for the Mids at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 outcome over Sacha Singh, while Tossavainen went 6-0, 6-1 over Andrew Proto at No. 4 and Mark went 6-0, 6-2 versus Victor Blasco at No. 1.
Pecor rounded out the sweep for Navy with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Francesc Terns-Campius in No. 2 action.
"This afternoon was a good match for us," said Officer. "We got some extra guys into the action, so that was good to see. St. Francis challenged us throughout as every point was a hard point."
"Today's matches were definitely positive and we'll look forward to traveling to No. 1 Virginia tomorrow," said Officer.
The Mids will have a quick turnaround as they will be right back in action on Sunday, Jan. 26 with a matchup versus the top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va. The action is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
