ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The Navy men's tennis team did not drop a set in posting a 7-0 victory over Lafayette Friday afternoon at Winning Edge Tennis in Allentown, Pa.

"It was nice to win all of the matches," said Navy head coach John Officer.

Navy (15-10, 3-1 Patriot League) began the dual by winning each of the three doubles matches from Lafayette (5-9, 1-3). Blake Daniel (So., Overland Park, Kan.) and Nicholas Gutsche (Sr., Sarasota, Fla.) first combined to win an 8-1 decision over Brian Stefanowicz and Gavin Studner at No. 2 doubles, then Alex Gaines (Fr., Wilmington, N.C.) and Alex Sisk (Jr., Clarksville, Ind.) posted a 9-7 win over the team of Alex Charchalis and Chris Matturri at No. 3 doubles to give the Mids the doubles point. Calvin Mark (So., Union City, Calif.) and Peter McDonald (So., Chapel Hill, N.C.) would team up for an 8-4 win over Scott Gelbman and Brandon Goldstein at No. 1 doubles to complete the three-match sweep for the Mids.

Daniel soon gave the Mids their second team point of the day with his 6-1, 6-0 win over Studner at No. 3 singles. Mark followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Goldstein at No. 1 singles, then Gutsche clinched the match for Navy with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over Stefanowicz at the No. 4 flight.

Navy's fifth point was recorded by McDonald when he finished off a 6-3, 6-1 win over Gelbman at No. 2 singles.

With the overall team decision already determined, the Nos. 5 and 6 matches featured just a single pro-set being played on the set of four courts at the facility. Those matches saw Sisk post an 8-5 win over Jake Lazer at No. 6 singles and Gaines defeat Matturri by the score of 8-7 (7-2) at No. 5 singles.

"The two guys who played extremely well today were Nick and Blake," said Officer. "They both were on top of their games in singles and doubles. Calvin also had a good singles match."

Navy will remain in the Lehigh Valley for a Saturday morning (10 a.m.) match at Lehigh. The winner of the 10 a.m. will have just one league loss this season and hold a tiebreaker over the other for the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Patriot League Tournament.

"We're going to have to play a little better Saturday," said Officer. "Lehigh is having a very good year, so we are going to have to step things up a bit."
