ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Binghamton improved its two-day record at the Navy Blue Invitational to a combined 22-2 with wins in 10 of the 12 matches it played against the Navy men's tennis team Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy Tennis Courts.

"Binghamton is a very talented team," said Navy head coach John Officer. "They showed today why they have been so highly regarded and nationally ranked over the last few years."

Navy players picked up a win during both the doubles and singles portion of the matches Saturday. Heyward Drayton (So., Valley Forge, Pa.) and Chris Kenney (So., Westlake Village, Calif.) first combined to post an 8-5 win at No. 4 doubles over the tandem of Ruben Haggai and Florian van Kann. Then, Blake Daniel (Fr., Overland Park, Kan.) won a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, decision over Haggai at No. 5 singles.

The Mids also had good opportunities to win two additional matches on the day. In doubles, Calvin Mark (Fr., Union City, Calif.) and Peter McDonald (Fr., Chapel Hill, N.C.) lost a 7-5 tiebreaker to the team of Bastian Bornkessel and Jonathan Hefetz. In the final match to both start and finish, Kenney lost a pair of tiebreakers -- 7-1, 7-5 -- to van Kann at No. 8 singles.

"We can play better than we did today," said Officer. "We have a young lineup out there and we need to have a little stronger expectation of winning matches like this. "I'd like to see us bear down more tomorrow and finish the weekend off well."

The Navy Blue Invitational will come to a close Sunday with a 9 a.m. match between Binghamton and St. Bonaventure and a 2 p.m. match between Navy and Temple.
