ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will have another strong early season test ahead of it as the Mids are slated to face East Carolina Sunday in a 10 a.m. match at the ECU Tennis Center in Greenville, N.C.

The Mids, 3-2 after two weeks of the spring season, have already faced No. 45 BYU and No. 1 Virginia this year.

East Carolina has posted a 4-1 record this season, with its lone loss coming to No. 43 North Carolina. The Pirates compiled a 16-6 record a year ago, a mark that included a 4-3 victory over the Mids in Annapolis.

"East Carolina is a talented and well-coached team," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We lost to them last year at home, so securing a victory on the road will be challenging. We will need to have a complete effort from every team member to make this happen. ECU is a very proud program and is knocking on the door to the national rankings. They have been ranked in the most recent past."

Individually for East Carolina, Joran Vliegen is the No. 1 ranked singles player in the Carolina Region and is 23rd nationally. Joining him with the national singles ranking is Miles Holvoet, who is ranked 110th. Additionally, Vliegen and teammate Colin Roller are ranked seventh in the region and 53rd nationally as a doubles tandem.

Last year's match between the two teams saw the Pirates win the doubles point and a trio of straight set singles matches to come away with the victory over the Mids.
