Men's Tennis Home Saturday for Doubleheader
ANNAPOLIS, Md. ---- The Navy men's tennis team will be back in the Tose Family Tennis Center Saturday for another doubleheader. The Mids (12-4) will play host to Binghamton (2-5) at 10 a.m. and George Mason (2-2) at 2 p.m.
"With two formidable teams coming in on Saturday," said Navy head coach Chris Garner, "it will be a very competitive and challenging day for the team. We will need to be competing and playing well in order to have a chance in both matches."
Included among Binghamton's results this season are losses to Clemson (5-2), Army (5-2) and Bryant (6-1). Navy has notched a 4-3 win over Bryant and a 6-1 victory over St. Bonaventure this season.
Binghamton posted a 7-15 record a year ago, with that overall mark including a 2-5 record in the Mid-American Conference.
"It was a great opportunity for us to add such a competitive program as Binghamton to our schedule this spring," said Garner.
Saturday's match will be the first between the Mids and the Bearcats.
George Mason's season thus far has included wins over Mary Washington (4-3) and Mount St. Mary's (4-3) and losses to fellow Atlantic 10 Conference foes Dayton (6-1) and Duquesne (4-3).
The Patriots tallied a 12-10 record a year ago and finished conference play with a 3-5 record.
Navy has defeated George Mason in each of the last four years, but the score in three of those matches (2014, `15, `17) was 4-3 and the remaining contest saw the Mids defeat the Patriots by the score of 5-2. Additionally, George Mason recorded a 4-3 win over Navy in 2013.
"Our matches with George Mason seem to always go the distance with the last match on the courts deciding who will win," said Garner.
