ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will open its Patriot League season this weekend by playing host to a pair of league foes. The Midshipmen will first take on Bucknell Saturday at 10 a.m. before facing Colgate Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Both matches currently are slated to be played outdoors on the USNA Tennis Courts. Should poor weather force either match inside it will instead be played at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Navy has posted a 12-8 record this season. The Mids most recently lost a 5-2 decision at Georgetown Tuesday afternoon. Highlighting Navy's efforts on the day were Calvin Mark (So., Union City, Calif.) and Peter McDonald (So., Chapel Hill, N.C.). The duo first combined for a win at No. 1 doubles before Mark lost just three games in recording a victory at No. 1 singles and McDonald won a three-set match at No. 2 singles. Each player has won six of its last seven respective singles matches, while the tandem has tallied seven wins in its last seven completed doubles matches.
Bucknell enters a Friday match at George Mason with a 6-4 record on the year. Meanwhile Colgate, will face Loyola Saturday morning prior to taking on the Mids. The Raiders travel to Maryland with a 5-6 record thus far this season.
"Bucknell is a talented team with a very solid key freshman added to the lineup," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We beat them by the score of 4-3 last year, so we will need to be at our best. Our schedule has prepared us well for the league season. Colgate looks to be a much improved team from last season."
One schedule note ... The site for Navy's March 30 match at Richmond has been moved to the U.S. Naval Academy. It will start at 11 a.m.
