The Navy tennis team lost a pair of close doubles matches, then failed to win a singles match in losing at American, 7-0, Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C. American won its seventh-straight match to improve to 8-5 on the season, while Navy saw its two-match winning streak come to an end while falling to 16-9 on the year.

Navy's No. 2 doubles team of Cameron Lickle and Chris McGrath defeated Juan Jaysingh and Jason Moon, 8-2, leaving Navy just one victory away from winning the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Ben Salomon and Jim Shaughnessy were down a break of serve, tied the match at 6-6, lost their serve again but broke back to tie the set at 7-7, then lost serve for a second-straight time to allow American's Bence Hamori and Jason Moon to take an 8-7 lead. The American duo then held serve to win the match, 9-7.

Navy still had a chance to win the doubles point as it's No. 3 team of Ryan Osgood and Heath Marshall jumped out to a 4-1 lead over Tushar Garg and Josh Procacci. American rallied and the two teams would eventually go into a tiebreaker, which the Eagles won, 7-4.

"We had a number of chances to win the doubles point," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We played well in the doubles matches, but not well enough at crunch time.

"Had we won the doubles point, I think we would have had some momentum heading into the singles matches and we might have had a different result.".

As it was, Navy managed to win just two sets in the six singles matches.

Navy will close its regular season on April 18 when the Mids play at Pennsylvania.
