ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The top-seeded Navy men's tennis team will face fourth-seeded Bucknell Saturday at 10 a.m. in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Tournament in Annapolis.
Bucknell posted a 4-1 victory over No. 5 Colgate Friday morning in the first of the three quarterfinal matches that were played on the day to advance on in the tournament. Navy received a bye directly into the semifinal round of the event.
The first match of the season between the two programs saw Navy rally for a 4-3 victory over Bucknell. The Bison won the doubles point and held a 3-2 lead over the Mids before Navy picked up victories from Marcus Rebersak (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) at No. 1 singles and Nicholas Gutsche (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) at No. 5 singles to rally for the win. The Mids have defeated the Bison by the score of 4-3 in back-to-back regular seasons.
Saturday's second semifinal match will pit No. 2 Lehigh against No. 3 Army. The Mountain Hawks won a 4-0 decision over No. 7 Holy Cross on Friday, with the Black Knights closing out play on the tournament's opening day with a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Lafayette.
Saturday's match between the Mountain Hawks and the Black Knights will start at 2 p.m.
Lehigh posted a 5-2 victory over Army when the teams met earlier this season.
The two semifinal round winners will then meet Sunday at 1 p.m. in the championship match of the tournament.
Both of Saturday's semifinal matches and Sunday's championship match are slated to be played outdoors on the USNA Tennis Courts. A decision as to whether or not the matches will be moved indoors to the Tose Family Tennis Center will be made prior to the start of each of the three matches. The current forecast shows the possibility of rain arriving in Annapolis on Saturday.
