ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Naval Academy assistant tennis coach Roger Follmer has been named head men's tennis coach at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., it was announced Monday by Washington.

Follmer spent two years as an assistant coach to John Officer at Navy, helping guide the Midshipmen to identical 18-11 records and appearances in the finals of the Patriot League Tournament in both years.

Follmer is a native of St. Louis and graduated from Lindbergh High School in 1991. He would go on to attend Purdue where he lettered all four years for the Boilermaker tennis team and captained the squad as a senior. Follmer would serve two years as an assistant coach at his alma mater prior to arriving in Annapolis.

He becomes the first full-time tennis coach at Washington in more than 25 years.

"I am very pleased and happy for Roger," said Officer. "Being from St. Louis, Washington is a perfect job for him. He did an excellent job for us in his two years at Navy. He was a very good assistant and I feel he is more than ready to take on the challenge of being a head coach."
