ITA Honors Navy Men’s Tennis Team
ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men’s tennis team earned All-Academic Team status from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week for the program’s efforts in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year. Additionally, five members of the squad garnered Scholar-Athlete honors from the organization.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letterwinners were factored into the cumulative team GPA.
The letterwinnners on the Navy team combined for a 3.23 GPA this year.
The ITA bestows Scholar-Athlete honors to those letterwinners enrolled at a school for at least two semesters and who attained at least a 3.50 GPA during the 2016-17 academic year.
A trio of Mids earned the accolade for a third year in their respective careers. This included 2017 graduate Thomas Pecor (Houston, Texas), who compiled a 3.81 GPA, along with rising seniors Andrey Majkic (Jacksonville, Fla.), 3.84, and Walker Sims (Memphis, Tenn.), 4.00. Pecor completed a degree in systems engineering, Majkic is working toward a degree in economics and Sims is majoring in history.
Garnering his second ITA honor was Pecor’s classmate Krishna Jana (Seabrook, Texas), who posted a 3.68 GPA during his final year as a systems engineering major. Competing the list of honored Mids is rising sophomore Ian Landwehr (Daleville, Ind.), who compiled a 4.00 GPA during his first year on The Yard.
Men’s and women’s tennis players and teams from all collegiate levels of competition –– Division I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College –– were eligible to be recognized by the ITA. Altogether, 720 teams and 3,908 student-athletes were honored.
