ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will continue its fall season this weekend when the Mids take part in the ECU Fall Shootout Friday through Sunday in Greenville, N.C. In addition to the Mids and the host Pirates, Coastal Carolina, James Madison and Richmond also will be competing in the round-robin tournament that will be held at the River Birch Tennis Center.
"We are excited to participate in the East Carolina Invitational this coming weekend," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We felt good about our performance in the Navy Invitational and look to build on that experience. Each player has fine tuned their games over the last two weeks. The teams in this event are all very solid with ECU and Richmond both beating us by a 4-3 score last spring. Our doubles teams are already performing at a high level despite our bringing out three new teams."
The Mids began their fall campaign by winning six of the 12 flight titles during the Navy Invitational Sept. 6-8. Navy players would combine to post a 16-6 record in singles and an 8-3 mark in doubles against St. Bonaventure, Temple and Delaware.
Winning flight titles in singles for Navy were Austin Jones (So., Dallas, Texas) at No. 2, Calvin Mark (Jr., Union City, Calif.) at No. 3 and Tyler Tossavainen (Fr., Fleming Island, Fla.) at No. 7. In doubles, Jones and Thomas Pecor (Fr., Houston, Texas) won the No. 1 flight, Blake Daniel (Jr., Overland Park, Kan.) combined with Mark for the No. 2 title and the team of Alex Gaines (So., Wilmington, N.C.) and Tossavainen would claim the No. 3 flight crown for the Mids.
This weekend is Navy's first appearance in the ECU Fall Shootout.
