ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will resume its fall season this weekend when the Midshipmen play host to the Navy Gold Invitational. The slate of matches at the invite features Navy playing UMBC Saturday at 9 a.m., George Mason taking on UMBC Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and the Mids facing the Patriots Sunday at 9 a.m.
Weather permitting, all three matches will be played outdoors on the USNA Tennis Courts. The matches will be played at the Tose Family Tennis Center should weather conditions dictate a move indoors.
The invite is an individual, flighted tournament that will not utilize team scoring.
"We are excited to host UMBC and George Mason at the event," said Navy assistant coach John Moreland, "and are looking forward to returning to the courts for competition. These are two quality teams we will face this weekend and we expect a tough matches throughout the lineup on both days."
This weekend marks Navy's second invite of the fall season. One month ago, the Mids won five singles flights and two doubles flights during the Navy Blue Invitational that included Temple, Delaware and St. Bonaventure.
"Our first tournament was a success with our being able to win seven of the 12 flights," said Moreland. "We look to build upon that initial success this weekend. This weekend's invite will not only be our last home competition for the fall, it also will serve as good preparation for the upcoming (Oct. 18-22) ITA Regional tournament in Charlottesville."
