Men's Tennis Season Continues this Weekend
ANNAPOLIS, Md. ---- The Navy men's tennis team will resume its fall slate of tournaments this weekend when the Mids play host to the Navy Blue Invitational. The three-day event runs Friday (10 a.m.), Saturday (9 a.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m.).
Friday's matches will be played at the Brigade Sports Complex (site changed announced Friday at 9 a.m.), with play on Saturday and Sunday expected to be held on The Yard, weather permitting.
Players from Navy, George Mason, Morgan State and Harford Community College will comprise the two singles draws (16 players each) and the one 16-team doubles bracket.
"We are looking forward to seeing the progress the team has made since our first tournament of the season," said Navy men's tennis head coach Chris Garner. "They have been improving weekly since the fall began. George Mason, Morgan State and Harford each bring in a number of players who will provide great tennis and competition during the weekend event."
The lone full-team event of the fall for the Mids thus far this season was the Joe Hunt Invitational hosted by Navy three weeks ago. Greg Durham (So., Melbourne Beach, Fla.), Matthew Lee (So., San Diego, Calif.) and Andrew Ton (Fr., Milpitas, Calif.) each posted a 3-1 record in singles during the event to lead the Navy squad in wins. Notching the best record in doubles (3-1) was the tandem of Romesh Kahatapitiya (Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Gabriel Pilones (So., Bradenton, Fla.).
