ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's team will close out its fall slate of tournaments this weekend when four members of the team compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Atlantic Region Championship. The main draw in both singles and doubles begins Friday on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va.
Calvin Mark (Jr., Union City, Calif.), Thomas Pecor (Fr., Houston, Texas) and Austin Jones (So., Dallas, Texas) are all entered into the main singles draw at the event, while Blake Daniel (Jr., Overland Park, Kan.) will attempt to win a pair of qualifying matches to advance into the main draw. Jones and Pecor garnered a No. 9-16 seed as a doubles tandem, with the duo of Daniel and Mark also entered into the doubles draw.
"We are looking forward to the regionals this week," said Navy head coach John Officer. "Pecor and Jones have won two tournaments at the No. 1 doubles flight this fall. The team has been working hard to prepare for this event. Our region is a very strong one."
Players from 21 teams comprise the field at the championship. Included among the represented teams are players from defending NCAA Champion Virginia, Bucknell, William & Mary, Delaware, Georgetown, Penn State, Old Dominion and the host Hokies.
Thursday, Oct. 17: Noon - Two rounds of qualifying singles
Friday, Oct. 18: 9 a.m. - First round of main draw singles and one round of doubles
Saturday, Oct. 19: 9 a.m. - Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. The singles round will be played in between the two rounds of doubles.
Sunday, Oct. 20: 10 a.m. - One round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles.
Monday, Oct. 21: 10 a.m. - Doubles semifinals followed by singles quarterfinals and semifinals.
Tuesday, Oct. 22: 10 a.m. - Finals of both singles and doubles.
