Men’s Tennis Home for Third Invite of the Fall
ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men’s tennis team will compete in its third tournament of the fall season this weekend when the Mids play host to the Navy Gold Invite in Annapolis. The three-day event runs Friday through Sunday and will be played on all of the available courts both on the USNA and at the Brigade Sports Complex.
Navy will welcome players from Binghamton, Longwood, Loyola, Mount St. Mary’s, Princeton and Saint Peter’s this weekend. The tournament will consist of four singles flights and one doubles draw.
Singles matches will be contested at both the USNA and Brigade Sports Complex / Tose Family Tennis Center courts, with all doubles matches being played across the river at the BSC.
“The team is looking forward to the opportunity to play against the players coming into town for this weekend’s tournament,” said Navy head coach Chris Garner. “We will get a chance to see the progress we have been making in practice as well as areas we need to keep improving on during the fall season.”
Leading Navy in singles victories through two weekends of tournament play is Andrew Ton (Fr., Milpitas, Calif.) with a 7-1 record. Close behind him are Matthew Lee (So., San Diego, Calif.) with a 6-2 record and Walker Sims (Sr., Memphis, Tenn.) with a 5-1 record. Romesh Kahatapitiya (Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) has compiled the most doubles wins on the squad with his mark of 5-2. Additionally, six Mids have won four doubles matches thus far this fall.
