Men’s Tennis Duo Off to Dickie V Classic
ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– Navy’s Andrew Ton (Fr., Milpitas, Calif.) and Greg Durham (So., Melbourne Beach, Fla.) will compete in the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic this weekend in Sarasota, Fla. The three-day event runs Friday through Sunday.
Now in its eighth year, the tournament features men’s and women’s players from colleges across the country competing in a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles bracket. The men’s half of the tournament includes players from Auburn, Florida, Louisville, George Washington, Princeton, Michigan, Virginia, Florida Gulf Coast, UCF and Illinois.
Durham enters the weekend with a 7-4 record in singles and a 6-5 mark in doubles thus far this season. Ton has compiled records this fall of 9-2 in singles and 6-4 in doubles. This will be the first time Durham and Ton will form a doubles team.
Ton will open singles play against Davis Crocker from Louisville, Durham will face Louisville’s Nicolas Rouanet and the duo will take on the Florida Gulf Coast tandem of Oliver Landert and Mateo Ruiz in the first round of doubles.
This is the third year in a row in which Navy has sent players to the tournament. Current seniors Andrey Majkic (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Walker Sims (Memphis, Tenn.) competed at the event one year ago, with 2016 graduate Austin Jones and 2017 graduate Thomas Pecor making the trip in 2015. Jones won his first round singles match two years ago.
