ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The fall season for the Navy men’s tennis team will come to a close this weekend when the Mids play host to Morgan State and Saint Joseph’s in the Navy Invitational. Play at the tournament will begin Friday at 10 a.m. and at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament will be held indoors at the Tose Family Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s matches will be held at either that same venue or on The Yard should weather conditions allow for matches to be played outdoors.

The three teams will compete in two singles draws of 16 players and one doubles bracket of 16 teams.

“It will create a competitive environment to close out the fall season with Morgan State and Saint Joseph’s coming in for the weekend,” said Navy head coach Chris Garner. “Morgan State played very well earlier in the fall at another Navy-hosted tournament. It will be the first time we will Saint Joseph’s this fall, but I know they have a very deep team. Both teams will be a great test to see where we stand after a couple of weeks of productive practice.”

Four of the five Navy doubles teams entered into the event are new pairings this fall. The lone tandem that has previously paired up is Joshua Martin (Sr., Foley, Ala.) and Romseh Kahatapitiya (Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.), with that duo having won two of its five matches as a team. Individually, Kahatapitiya, Matthew Lee (So., San Diego, Calif.) and Andrey Majkic (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) have each won seven doubles matches this season.

Ten Mids are entered into the two singles draws, with half slated to compete in each. Among those entered into the Blue bracket are Walker Sims (Sr., Memphis, Tenn.), Lee and Peter Lohrbach (Fr., Little Neck, N.Y.). Sims and Lee have each won eight singles matches thus far this fall and Lohrbach has won seven matches.

Seth McNair (Jr., McLean, Va.) and Martin lead the quintet of Mids competing in the Yellow flight. McNair has won five singles matches this season and Martin has posted four wins.
