Men's Track & Field Competes at Spire Division I Invitational

GENEVA, Ohio – The Navy men’s track & field squad competed at the Spire Division I Invitational on Saturday. The Mids generated 10 top-10 finishes at the meet.
“This was a good tune up for the team before they headed for the Patriot League Championships next week,” said head coach Stephen Cooksey. “We competed at a good level today and hope to carry it over into next weekend’s championship.”
Junior Mark Vetere (Andover, Mass.) performed well on the track for Navy with a second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 16ft-4.25in (4.98m). On the track, Jordan Sartor-Francis (Jonesboro, Ga.) placed fourth in the 200m dash with a season-best time of 21.56.
In the 400m dash, teammates Jeremy Cadiente (Beech Island, S.C.) and Nathan Gainey (Ellicott City, Md.) crossed the tape within .35 seconds of eachother, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
In the weight throw, Derrick Petett (Lexington Park, Md.) crushed his previous-best mark of 18.37m by a full meter (19.37m) for a career-high 63ft-6.5in throw.
Navy will look to defend its Patriot League Championship title next weekend in Lewisburg, Pa. The meet will begin on Friday, Feb. 21 and go through to Sunday, Feb. 23
