Navy Men's Track & Field Opens IC4A Indoor Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - Navy is tied for 15th place with four points after the first day of competition at the IC4A Indoor Championship at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. Senior Christopher Galvin and junior Zack Duncavage each earned IC4A All-East honors on the opening day.
Galvin earned his first All-East accolades by placing sixth in the 5,000m run at 14:14.20, a new personal-best time and the seventh-best indoor time in program history. Galvin earned Navy three team points. Sophomore Ryan Kelley was 13th at 14:32.14 and sophomore John Sweeney was 17th at 14:36.11.
Duncavage earned All-East honors by placing eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 59-2 (18.03m), earning one team point. Duncavage won the weight throw title at the Patriot League Indoor Championship and he will compete in the shot put on Sunday.
Navy had two athletes advance through the qualifying rounds of the running events on Saturday. Junior Weston Kennedy won his heat of the mile prelims with a 4:09.17 to qualify for Sunday's 10-runner final. Senior Mitch Simmonds ran an 8.23 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles to qualify for Sunday's semifinal.
Senior Joshua Shaw led Navy's trio of runners in the 800m, running a personal-best 1:52.47 to place 15th in the prelims. Sophomore Joshua Kingsland was 20th (1:53.09) and junior Caleb Haney was 32nd (1:55.00). Freshman Chris Miller placed 14th in the prelims of the 1,000m run with a time of 2:28.38.
Freshman Austin Batiste ran a 48.57 in the prelims of the 400m dash, his second-best time of the year, to place 17th. Junior Jeremy Cadiente was 22nd at 48.89 and senior Kolton Kempel was 28th at 50.01.
Navy's 4x400m relay team of Batiste, Kempel, Shaw and Cadiente placed 16th in the prelims with a time of 3:15.90, Navy's best time this season.
Senior Kyle Satterwhite competed at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday. Satterwhite turned in a personal-record in the 3,000m run, taking 10th place at 8:06.14.
Navy will have 14 athletes in action at the IC4As on Sunday, competing in the 60m hurdles, mile, 3,000m, pole vault, long jump and shot put. Connecticut leads after day one with 32 points.
