Junior Zack Duncavage won three throwing events to highlight the Navy men's track and field program's participation at the Maryland Invitational at Kehoe Track on Saturday. Navy won 10 events and posted nine IC4A-qualifying performances at the non-scored meet. The Mids competed against Maryland, Johns Hopkins, Mount St. Mary's, Howard, American and George Washington.
Duncavage won the shot put with a personal-best and IC4A mark of 53-1½ (16.19m) and won the hammer throw with a personal-best and IC4A mark of 184-1 (56.11m). He also won the discus with a third IC4A mark at 178-10 (54.50m), which was the fifth-best mark in school history. Duncavage, the current Patriot League Field-Athlete of the Week, has won six individual events this outdoor season.
Junior Kyle Fortney was second in the hammer throw with an IC4A mark of 179-5 (54.70m) and junior Derrick Petett was third at 176-11 (53.93m), also an IC4A mark. Fortney also placed fourth in the discus at 152-5 (46.46m).
Freshman Jay Stell won the javelin to complete Navy's sweep of the four throwing events. Stell posted an IC4A-qualifying mark of 216-3 (65.92m) and won by 30 feet. Sophomore David Capote was third in the javelin at 186-5 (56.81m).
Sophomore Mark Vetere won the pole vault with an IC4A-qualifying height of 15-11¾ (4.87m). Junior Ryan Kochert placed second with a clear of 15-5¾ (4.72m).
Junior Sean Rynning
won the 1,500m run at 3:56.51. Senior Kyle Satterwhite
placed third at 3:57.46 and freshman Steve Schroeder
was fourth (3:57.83).
Junior Chris Burns won the 5,000m run with a time of 14:45.62. Sophomore Brian De La Mora was second (14:46.28) and sophomore Zach Hebda was third 14:49.01).
Sophomore Tom Delaney won the 3,000m steeplechase at 9:26.50 and sophomore Kyle Davis was second at 9:36.20.
Junior Brett Bogaard won the 100m dash at 11.02, his best time of the season. Sophomore Rico Goldstone was fourth at 11.18.
Freshman Austin Batiste was the second finisher and the top collegiate in the 200m dash with a time of 21.96. Bogaard was third overall with a time of 22.08. Like the 200m, Batiste was second overall but the top collegiate finisher in the 400m, clocking a 48.29 (IC4A).
Sophomore Joshua Kingsland placed fourth in the 800m at 1:52.94, junior Weston Kennedy was fifth (1:53.59) and senior Joshua Shaw was sixth (1:53.60).
Junior Isaac Losee took second place in the 110m high hurdles at 14.88 and senior Mitch Simmonds was third (15.52). Simmonds placed second in the 400m hurdles at 55.84.
Freshman Jeremy Granderson placed second in the high jump with a clear of 6-4¼ (1.94m). Junior Randon McKain placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 44-6¼ (13.57m).
Navy's 4x100 relay squad of Goldstone, Batiste, Bogaard and Simmonds took first place with a time of 42.20 (IC4A).
Navy will host Army next Saturday at 10:00 AM for the 87th edition of the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet. Navy defeated Army during the indoor season, 93-88.
