Men's Track Places 10th in Championship of America Race at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Navy men's outdoor track and field team had a strong day at the Penn Relays on Saturday at Franklin Field. Navy put on a solid performance in the distance medley relay and three individuals posted IC4A-qualifying marks. There is no team scoring at the Penn Relays.
Navy placed 10th in the Championship of America Distance Medley Relay with a time of 9:48.37, the ninth-best time in school history. The DMR team was made up of sophomore Weston Kennedy (1200m), senior Alex Jackson (400m), senior Dominic Della Pelle (800m) and senior Cody Rome, who turned in a 4:03 split on the 1600m-anchor leg.
Navy placed sixth in its heat and 41st overall in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:19.65. Navy's mile relay team consisted of Kempel, sophomore Jeremy Cadiente, freshman Joshua Kingsland and senior Matt Evers.
Navy's 4x100m relay team finished eighth in its heat and 49th overall out of 88 schools with a time of 42.64. The Mids that ran the 4x100m were junior Mitch Simmonds, sophomore Brett Bogaard, freshman Rico Goldstone and freshman Jalen Elrod.
Senior James Pearson ran a personal record time of 30:06.77 (IC4A) to place eighth in the Championship of America 10,000m run. Pearson finished just three tenths of a second out of fifth place. His time of 30:06 is the fastest in the Patriot League this season and ranks fourth on the head coach Stephen Cooksey-era performance list (1989-Present).
Junior Kyle Satterwhite took third place in the college division of the 5,000m run with a season-best time of 14:27.16 (IC4A). It was Satterwhite's best outdoor 5K time and just two seconds off his indoor PR in the event.
Sophomore Zack Duncavage, competing in the championship section of the discus throw, surpassed the IC4A-qualifying standard with an 11th-place distance of 165-4 (50.41m). Boniwell also placed 29th in the college division in the discus with a mark of 146-7 (44.68m).
Senior Chris Boniwell made a mark of 48-1¼ (14.66m) to take 17th place in the shot put college field.
Navy will resume action on Saturday at the Penn Relays.
