ANNAPOLIS, Md. - For the second time in program history, the Navy men's track and field team captured the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday in Annapolis, Maryland. Navy topped the field with 239 points, which is the highest point total scored in school history at a league championship.

"We got a lot of help from the top end of our team to finish out day two," Navy head coach Stephen Cooksey said. "Coming into today, we sat everyone down and told the group that we had a great first day so we can not get complacent. As the meet was going on, there was a reason why I kept checking the score because Bucknell came within 16 points at one point and I felt that we may have started to become complacent. Our athletes, however, came through in the final events to put the meet away."

Following Navy's 239 points, Bucknell finished second with 176. Boston University wrapped up its first Patriot League outdoor championship with a third-place finish of 139.50. Army's 113 points and Lehigh's 110.50 points rounded out the top five. Lafayette (31), Holy Cross (21), American (17) and Colgate (8) completed the nine-team field.

Senior thrower Zack Duncavage (League City, Texas) was named the Patriot League Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet for the first time in his career. Duncavage had a strong second day, winning the shot put (54-5.50) and the discus (181-9). Head coach Stephen Cooksey was named the Patriot League Outdoor Coach of the Year for the second time in his career, leading Navy to its second outdoor league title.

"Zack has been a great overall leader and an extremely dependable athlete," Cooksey said. "Zack, along with Weston Kennedy, were co-captains this year and Zack took it upon himself to be the vocal leader and always found a way to say the right things and pump our team up."

In 22 total scoring events, Navy recorded eight first-place finishes and eight second-place finishes. Duncavage and sophomore Jordan Sartor-Francis (Jonesboro, Ga.) each led the Midshipmen with two wins in their respective events. Sartor-Francis won the 100m (10.50) and 200m (20.83) dashes. The sophomore sprinter's 10.50 time in the 100m dash tied the Patriot League record that was set by Lafayette's Jerome Rudolph in 2012.

Sophomore Austin Batiste (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded an All-Patriot League Second Team (runner-up) performance in the 400m dash with a time 47.70. Senior Jeremy Cadiente (Beech Island, S.C.) placed sixth in the 400m with a mark of 48.71.

Weston Kennedy (Sr., Sugarland, Texas) and Sean Rynning (Sr., Longwood, Fla.) went 3-4 in the 1500m run, finishing with IC4A-qualifying times of 3:50.27 and 3:50.81, respectively. Sophomore Sam Peckham (Valenica, Calif.) placed second in the 5000m run with a time of 14:37.88.

Navy's 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay teams both finished second. Rico Goldstone (Jr., Breinigsville, Pa.), Brett Bogaard (Sr., Pella, Iowa), Rex Willis and Sartor-Francis led the 4x100m relay squad with an IC4A-qualifying time of 40.98, just 0.07 off Bucknell's first-place finish. Bogaard, Cadiente, Roberto Swersky (Fr., Morris Plains, N.J.) and Kingsland helped the 4x400m relay finish second with a time of 3:13.19 (IC4A).

Freshman Nick Deterding (Lindsborg, Kan.) placed second in the high jump with a performance of 6-8.25 (2.04m). Freshman Khaalif Wolfe (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) came in second place in the triple jump with a mark of 47-9 (14.55m).

Navy will have a week off before it travels to Princeton, N.J. for the 2014 IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
