Jan. 7, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Freshman Jeremy Granderson (Fredericksburg, Va.) has been named the Patriot League Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The weekly honor is presented by M-F Athletic.
Granderson helped Navy (1-0) post a 91-89 dual meet win over Princeton on Sunday. It was the first win for the Mids in the series in the last 10 meetings.
The freshman placed second in the long jump with a mark of 22-9¾ (6.95m) and was third in the high jump, clearing 6-4¼ (1.94m). Both marks are his season bests.
Granderson ranks second in the Patriot League in the long jump and is tied for fourth in the high jump on the conference performance lists.
Granderson is the second plebe to earn rookie of the week honors from the Patriot League during this young 2012-13 indoor season. Pole vaulter Jaie Maness won the award on December 3 following the Navy Invitational.
Navy is hosting American, Mount St. Mary's and VCU on Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House at 11:00 AM. Four heptathlon events will also be held Friday evening.
