ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Following its dual-meet win over Princeton on Sunday, the Navy men’s track & field squad (1-0) will look to carry over its success against four schools on Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The Mids will host American, Hampton, Maryland-Eastern Shore and Mount St. Mary’s, starting at 11 a.m. with the weight throw.
Navy had a strong overall performance in its dual meet win over Princeton on Sunday. The back-to-back meet wins in consecutive seasons gave Navy the all-time series lead, 22-21.
Navy tallied nine first-place finishes and eight IC4A-qualifying performances. Leading the Mids was sophomore Jordan Sartor Francis (Jonesboro, Ga.) with two first-place finishes, which were also IC4A-qualifying times. Sartor-Francis placed first in the 60-meter dash (6.95) and 200-meter dash (21.78).
Senior Jeremy Cadiente (Beech Island, S.C.) followed Sartor-Francis’ winning performance with a first-place finish in the 500-meter run. Cadiente’s first-place finishing time of 1:05.06 was also an IC4A-qualifying mark.
Sophomore Steve Schroeder (Monticello, Ill.) ran the 3000-meter run neck-and-neck with Princeton’s Chris Bendtsen. Bendsten ended up crossing the tape .37 seconds before Schroeder, but Schroeder’s time of 8:23.28 was an IC4A-qualifing performance.
The Mids saw strong performances in the field events, tallying four IC4A-qualifying marks. The Mids went 1-2 in the weight throw and the pole vault.
Senior Derrick Petett (Lexington Park, Md.) led the Mids in the weight throw with a first-place and IC4A-qualifying performance of 17.52m/57-5.75. Teammate Zack Duncavage (League City, Texas) fell .03 meters short of Petett’s mark with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 17.49m/57-4.75.
