CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Navy men's track and field program made Patriot League history this week when freshman Steve Schroeder (Monticello, Ill.) was named the M-F Athletic Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Week.

Navy becomes the first men's program to have four different freshmen earn the league's top rookie weekly honor over the course of one season.

Head coach Stephen Cooksey's recruiting class has made an immediate impact this season for the Mids, who recently took first place at a home three-team meet, topping Delaware State and Temple last Saturday.

Schroeder won the 3,000m run with an IC4A Championship qualifying time of 8:19.08. Schroeder is ranked No. 1 on the Patriot League performance list in the event.

Schroeder, the 2012 Patriot League Cross Country Rookie of the Year, also qualified for the IC4A Championship in the mile earlier this season with a time of 4:13.43.

Fellow freshman Austin Batiste (sprints) was named the league's rookie of the week on January 14, Jeremy Granderson (jumps) won on January 7 and pole vaulter Jiles Maness won on December 3.

Navy is hosting the Wesley Brown Invitational this Saturday at 11:00 AM.
